Susan Malikowski - Artist Statement
I’ve worked in various media including oils, watercolor,
and printmaking and have been working mostly in oils,
on canvas, paper or wood since 1997, when I studied
painting out in open air with Carolyn Meyers. So began
my love affair with the world of plein air in the Bay Area.
I began painting with a group of artists in the
San Francisco North Bay, known as Open Space Odyssey,
gaining access to inaccessible at-risk agricultural
and open space lands. Recently, I studied plein air
painting as a student with Nikki Basch-Davis.
I incorporate landscapes into my studio works, bringing
personal connection to these sacred places.
Recent shows include the Nash Gallery in Crockett, and
the Benicia Public Library. At the 9th Annual American
Canyon Arts Extravaganza, I was awarded Best of Show.
My work has been exhibited in California: San Francisco,
Berkeley, Mendocino, Benicia, Crockett, Vallejo, American
Canyon and Vacaville; Pennsylvania and Washington.
